9 ways to have inner peace and the happiness that comes with it.

1. Simplify Your Life

If you feel like you’re constantly running in circles maybe it’s time to consider simplifying your life. The myth that more is better is just a myth. In truth clutter, ‘busyness’ and chaos adds up causing overwhelm which robs you of inner peace and happiness. Simplicity is a good starting point to create space for inner peace.

Keep an agenda or calendar so you know what to expect of yourself, and others on a daily basis. And break down bigger projects into small tasks that are easier to manage.

2. Live Life in the Present (One Day at a Time)

Learning from past mistakes is a great tool, but if you are living in the past, you aren’t living today. Likewise, if you are worrying about what might happen in the future, you also aren’t in the moment, here and now, today.

It’s natural that at some point in life we will all have regrets. Often we wish we had done things in a different way. And as difficult as it may be making mistakes is a valuable part of life. And without experiencing such things, we have no point of reference for our future.

With this said  can only live life one day at a time.  You can only be in this moment for as long as it lasts. You’ll have more energy and brain power to concentrate on today if you are fully present.

3. Live with Intention

Be open to change your life, be intentional in how you live your life, and choose the relationships you cultivate. When you live with intention you will attract more of what you desire in life. Living intentionally is similar to setting goals and taking steps to reach them in everything you say and do.

4. Speak Up and Learn to Say No

If you don’t speak up, no one will know if they have breached a boundary. Boundaries are a critical way to maintain inner peace. It’s okay to say no to people for any reason. Especially if you don’t have the time, resources or a desire to fulfill a request. If you always say yes to others you may be moving further away from having more of what you want in life.

If you are genuine with yourself and others, they will respect you more for saying no anyway. Saying yes to what you desire will bring you closer to what makes you happy and brings you peace in your life.

5. Accept, Forgive and Move On

Struggling with or hanging onto things that no longer serve you can cause more strife than the situation or person with whom are you dealing. Accept that you can’t really change people any more than someone has the power to change you.  If you’ve been wronged, be quick to forgive.

Holding on to resentment and hurt feelings is a breeding ground for anxiety, stress, and misery. Let go. Move forward. Forgiveness doesn’t necessarily mean forgetting, but it does mean cleansing your mind and body of the pain and growing from whatever caused you pain.

6. DeClutter Your Home and Life to Increase Inner Peace

This goes along with keeping things simple. Unlike handling daily chores you can declutter anything that takes up unnecessary space. in your life or drains you of energy. This is a time to declutter clothing, junk, friends list and anything that keeps you from having inner peace.

You can declutter a cabinet, and you can declutter your friends list. You can get rid of old clothes and you can get rid of toxic relationships. All of these things create a wall between you and inner peace.

7. Set Goals and Celebrate Victories

Goals are an important part of life. And just because you want more inner peace that does not mean you need let go of success. It’s possible to work on your goals while you eliminate what no longer serves you. These shifts will allow you to make space for what you desire in your life.

8. Unplug from Computers, Phones and Technology for More Inner Peace

You need to take time for yourself. Self-care is a huge part of obtaining inner peace. If we are honest we know that it’s not possible to be at peace when you are reading endless emails and absorbing ‘stuff’ on social media sites. Limiting your time will free up plenty of time so you can do something that brings more inner peace in your life.

9. Give Back and Serve Others

Another way to have inner peace is to give back to the community in which you live. Pick a volunteer project that resonates with you. You can donate items to a shelter or group home. Walk dogs and care for animals at a local shelter or visit seniors in the hospital or a hospice.

Take notice of those around you such as your neighbors  should they need help or encouragement. Humans needs humans and humanity. All of this makes our world a better place to live in not only for other but for you and our world as a whole. Helping others feels good. It provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
