Are SmartPhone Safe for Daytime

Make sure you are using your smartphone and not its not the other way around. Use them to streamline your business, stay in contact with friends and safety when travelling. They are marvelous things as long as they don’t replace friends and family, and that they do not become you lifeline.

Why Ban a SmartPhone in Your Bedroom

While you smartphone is a handy tool, it’s not always necessary or healthy to have by your side at all times. nd this includes keeping a phone in you bedroom at night. The light of phones and other electronic devices can rob you of you of necessary sleep. lack of sleep is physically unhealthy and lack of it can affect how you function in your day to day life. This is impart due to type of light that emits from your phone (and most all devices you think of).

Blue Light – Sleep Disruption and Insomnia

Known as ‘the blue glow’ – that is found and studied by researchers is found to disrupt our circadian rhythm. Which is the natural rhythm of our sleep and wake patterns. This is the internal balance our body experiences between alertness and being sleepy.

Our bodies – as with many other organisms on the planet – has a cycle that naturally lulls us to sleep and prompts us to wake at certain times over a 24 hour period. It turns out that that the blue light that comes from our phones can disrupt this pattern and rob us of quality and quantity of sleep.

Health Danger of Blue Light in Devices

The biggest reasons to ban smartphones in bedrooms is due to the glowing color that comes from your screen. And while it is not such an issues in the day, the light acts as a stimulant,  when its time to relax. This it’s working against your natural  rhythm.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that our endocrine system secretes into our blood when we are nearing bedtime. The overstimulation of screen time while in bed – or in the two hours before bed – diminishes or prevents the production of hormone, which means we may stay more alert and have a harder time falling asleep.

The visual glow of our phones can hinder us from the REM aka Rapid Eye Movement, or sleep that is the most restorative for our health. Or its because we hear every alert that goes off during the night such as a random email or social media notification that goes off at night. All of which can stop you from getting the sleep you need to function.

How to Manage Your Smartphones (and Keep Your Health)

To help get the sleep you you can use the setting that comes with most smartphones and devices. Below is a few handy setting to keep smartphones out of bedrooms, or at least the brightness and sounds.

Turn Off Sound and Alerts During Sleep Hours

Most smartphones have a “do not disturb” feature that allows you to shut off all notifications while still being able to receive calls from designated numbers. This means you can rest assured knowing your kids or aging parents can call during an emergency, but all other notifications will be silenced until you turn them back on.

Dim The Screen

If it’s essential to keep smartphones in bedrooms for work or using it as a clock, then make the screen light dim. Most phones have this feature that can be set in advance for sleep time (say 8:30 pm- 7:00 am). Dimming the screen will help to reduce the amount of blue light that radiates in the dark if your phone is active at night.

Set the Autoresponder

To manage emails on your phone, you can set up an automated responder (similar to that of an answering machine message). The message will notify recipients that you’re either away or you will check your email and reply at specific times. This reduces any unrealistic expectations that others may have for immediate access to your time.

Concluding SmartPhones in Bedrooms

A smartphone is a tool that can help to make our lives easier, fun and even keep us safe. But its not helpful if our device robs us of our necessary sleep. If we fail to get enough need rest it’ll show up in our daily life. So enjoy the benefits of your phone and leave it out of the bedroom when it’s time to sleep. The same goes for children, grandkids and anyone with a phone.

Putting a ban on smartphones in bedrooms will help maintain a good balance in your life.
