Step by Step Guide for Doing a Home Pedicure

1. Remove Old Nail Polish

The first step is to do away with old nail polish, if any. There is acetone and non acetone remover. Acetone is the most effective product for the job.  Chose either pre soaked acetone pads or cotton balls and solution to dissolve old polish for a clean slate.

Begin by drenching a cotton ball or pad in the acetone. Place it over the nail and let it sit. After a few seconds simply wipe the color off.

2. Trim, File, Buff

One you removed the nail polish the next part of your home pedicure is time to trim your toenails. Using a sanitized nail clipper carefully trim your nails. Once the length is right then follow up by carefully filing the edges into the desired shape. Next gently lightly buff the bed with a buffer block to get them nice and smooth.

3. Soak Your Feet

The next step is to dip your feet in a warm soapy water bath and soak them for 5-10 minutes. You can use an ordinary bowl dishpan, or bathtub. But if you don’t mind splurging a little on yourself, a home foot spa/bath massager is the ultimate pedicure luxury.

To beat bad odor and thoroughly clean your feet, add a cup of Epsom salt. Indulge by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oils too. Essential oils have antiseptic properties, and the fragrance is soothing, revitalizing, relaxing, and leaves your feet feeling and smelling fresh.

4. Remove Any Calluses

Your feet should now feel velvety. Any thick, rough, hardened dead skin is softened and much easier to remove. Use the pumice stone to slough off the calluses revealing a fresh baby soft sole.

If your hands are not up for a mini workout, ditch the pumice stone and opt for a non-labor intensive alternative like a callus remover gel. It is a formula that does the sloughing for you by dissolving the calluses.

5. Exfoliate Feet

The rest of your foot needs to be exfoliated. There’s a few great scrubs for the legs. Apply and scrub the entire skin surface gently but firmly. Do not forget the area in between and under the toes. Rinse off clean after a few minutes and dry with a towel.

6. Attend to The Cuticles

Grab your cuticle cream, oil or serum and apply some to the nail bed and sides. This action softens the cuticles, so you can push them back gently without hurting yourself.

Do not attempt to cut cuticles. They form a delicate part of the nail that is susceptible to infections when done wrong. It is better to leave that to the expert nail technician on your next appointment.

7. Slather on the Moisturizer

Apply foot cream or your everyday body butter and massage slowly and thoroughly in all areas. You can go all the way up above your ankles for the refreshed legs feeling.

8. Add Some Polish to Your Home Pedicure

The last step is to apply nail polish. Before anything else, swipe some acetone on the nail plates to remove any residue or oil. For a flawless job, insert toe separators between toes.

Now start with the base coat application, then the color nail polish, and finally the top coat, giving adequate drying time between them.
